TODAYS NOTES

After months of being offline without any net access at all, I'm finally back to moderate. If you would like to add a tutorial or a helpful link just send a note.

ABOUT US
_________

This is a community for Deviant Artists that have had their art ripped off by others!

Inspired by several angry Journals, this community was created as a place for anyone to post comments, tutorials, and any helpful info for artists struggling with copyright issues and stolen creations.

Flaming, bombardment, site hacking, or any other form of cyber terrorism is strictly not allowed. We know you are angry, but you can come here and we will help you to rationalize. That why we are here. If any members break this rule, they will be removed from the members list.

THIS IS NOT AN ANGRY MOB.

If we are unable to keep the peace within the club, RippedOffArtist will disband itself without notice.

We also need you guys to be able to tell what a rip and what isn't. Be sure you have sufficient proof before coming to us with a rip. Remember, we only deal with rip's outside of DA. So do not come to us with a link of a rip on DA, the procedures and contact information for reporting a rip are listed below.

Here we offer support and hugs and also offer information on the proper procedures for people who get ripped. We ask that you don't give the name of the ripper or a link (as said above) to the ripped work unless the ripper is outside of DA. We cannot do a lot besides give you emotional support and inform you how to report a rip if this is a problem inside Deviant Art, and even then it is to be kept very vague and private, NO NAMES. We cannot have contact with the ripper at all. Listing a name and a link to a ripper inside DA is strictly NOT allowed. We all know that when this happens it will cause a team of people to attack this person, which is violation of DA's policy.

(See below on "keep private issues private")

________________________________

WE CAN HELP IF SOMEONE...
________________________________

> Stole from your DA account and put your art on their website or photo log as their own, and won't take it down at your request. In this situation our community will help you get it down.

> Used stock, brushes, or anything else you made, OUTSIDE OF DA without permission or without the required linkback.

Remember, a linkback is only considered proper ettiquette, and is not really required of anyone. However we can help you make a polite request to be credited or to have the work removed.

> Published your poetry and prose on a website, blog, or even in a book and said it was their own. In this case we will help to have it removed. If it is in a book, that is a criminal offence and we will work to help you find the information you need to press charges. Or give you a hug and advise you to a good lawyer if we are unable to help.

HELP AND PREVENTION

KEEP PRIVATE ISSUES PRIVATE
__________________________

(right out of deviant art policy) to help prevent a war on deviant art read the following when having an issue with another deviant to keep private issues private:

Personal, or private, issues between two or more deviants are to remain private. The insistence on making such matters public may result in closed forum threads and policy warnings. If the nature of the problem involves deviantART itself, you may ask one of the Policy Violation Administrators to mediate the situation to an acceptable resolution.

HOW TO REPORT A RIP ON DA
___________________

The proper procedure for reporting a rip inside DA is the following:

If an artist feels that they have been ripped, or is aware that another artist has been ripped, please notify staff via

violations@deviantart.com

with the following information:

Link to the original work.
Link to the "ripped" work.
Whether this is a constant problem with the ripper.
Name of the ripper.

(Remember, we cannot help you with problems inside of DA, so don't "name names" here.)

_______________________

PREVENT CONFRONTATION
_______________________

To prevent an argument with a ripper leave a note on the post that only shows one thing, this little icon :rip: which you can make like this- : rip : without the spaces.
Even if they retaliate, do not say anything for risk of starting an argument. Arguing wil not solve anything and will only cause you trouble.
It is better to stay anonymous, but if you must reveal yourself then using the rip icon is the best choice. When this is done report it to the admins following the above procedure.

The word shall be spread...
:icondubtastic:
excellent group here on da....

would love your opinions on this: [link]
:iconrippedoffartist:
Did you report him to DA for stealing your code?
:iconrippedoffartist:
sorry, but you must read out journal, we cannot do anything with artists from DA, and we cannot see links to the rippers, or know the accused screenname. We deal with rips only outside of DA, from people who have taken art from DA and posted in photologs and on personal websites.
:icondjpowerfreak:
Woops that sounded a lot more militant than it was meant to :)

But anyone can see from their guestbook [link] that they're stealing from all sorts of places.
:iconrippedoffartist:
angeliceyes here, ROA moderator, I have left a post in his guest book, have the images been removed off the site since then?
:icondjpowerfreak:
One [link] Living Canvas Art Dot Com is ripping off a few Deviants here.

For doing this, he will suffer.

bastard-saint-productions@comcast.net is his listed email address - but it's already been destroyed.

Ahah!

I hope he _really really_ likes jokes and pr0n 'cos he's signed up for a few lists now!
:iconrippedoffartist:
Signing people up for porn lists, while creative and funny, is NOT going to stop the problem. Did you ask the webmasters to take the art down?
:iconalteredreality:
" Didn't link back too you when they used stock, brushes, or anything else you made, and refused to do so"

It's not required to link back, however it's common courtesy to do so. However, not linking is not grounds for a deviation being removed.

Reports of my demise have been greatly exaggerated.

Reports of _your_ demise have been premature, but accurate.
:iconrippedoffartist:
was there anything else? I want to make sure I have everything correct. I really didn't think stock photos are allowed to be used freely, honestly it doesn't sound right to me. Is there anything here on DA you could show me that states that in the FAQ's or anything. I would like to read up more about it as I will consider removing my stock account because I don't offer stock for people to take and not credit. Thanks for your time.
